Online Individual Counselling

At the heart of this journey is the transformative power of self-compassion and self-belief

Online Counselling: Accessing Therapy from Anywhere

In today's fast-paced world, access to mental health support is more important than ever. However, many individuals find it challenging to attend in-person counseling sessions due to busy schedules, mobility issues, or the stigma associated with seeking help, or prefer to have their sessions from the safe space of their home.

Online individual counselling provides a convenient and effective way to overcome these barriers, allowing you to receive support from the convenience of your homes.

Convenience: You can schedule sessions at times that suit your lifestyle, eliminating the need to commute to a therapist’s office. This flexibility makes it easier for busy professionals, parents, or individuals with mobility issues to prioritize their mental health.

Accessibility: Online counselling breaks down geographical barriers, allowing you to connect with therapists regardless of their location.

Comfort:  The comfort of familiar surroundings can enhance the therapeutic experience. Online counseling allows you to participate in sessions from the privacy of your own home, which can help you feel more relaxed and open during discussions.

Normalizing Seeking Help and Support: Seeking help for mental health concerns should be viewed as a proactive and positive step toward self-care and personal growth. Online counselling offers a convenient and confidential way for individuals to prioritize their mental well-being without fear of judgment or stigma, and actualize their potentials in life.

Choosing a Counsellor: When considering online counseling, you can research and choose a therapist who specializes in your specific needs. Most online therapy platforms provide detailed profiles of counsellors, including their areas of expertise, credentials, and approach to counseling. Also, many counsellors offer complimentary initial sessions (10-20 minutes) over phone that can help in finding a good fit for your needs.

Setting up Sessions: After finding a good enough fit, you can schedule sessions through the online platform. Sessions are typically conducted via video conferencing or phone calls, depending on the client’s preferences and the counsellor’s offerings. In Yara Psychotherapy we use Jane App and Zoom.

Encryption and Security Measure: Online therapy platforms prioritize the privacy and confidentiality of client information by employing encryption and other security measures to protect data transmitted during sessions. These platforms comply with industry standards and regulations to ensure the security of client information.

Legal Protections: Counsellors who provide online counseling are bound by the same legal and ethical standards as traditional therapists, including maintaining client confidentiality and adhering to professional codes of conduct. Clients can rest assured that their privacy is protected under the law.

Technical issues: Like any online service, online individual counselling may be susceptible to technical issues such as poor internet connection or software glitches. However, most platforms offer technical support to assist clients in resolving these issues promptly. Also, your counsellor might have a back up plan for these situations.

Lack of nonverbal cues: Online counselling may lack some of the nonverbal cues present in face-to-face interactions, such as body language. Counsellors and clients may need to adapt their communication styles to compensate for this limitation.

Not suitable for crisis situations: Online counselling may not be suitable for individuals experiencing severe mental health crises or emergencies. In such cases, it’s essential to seek immediate support from local crisis hotlines, emergency services, or in-person mental health professionals

Many insurance companies now provide coverage for online counselling services. It’s essential to check with your insurance provider to determine your coverage options working with a registered clinical counsellor (RCC) and any out-of-pocket expenses.
